About Berkshire

Berkshire has a long history of conflict, bloodshed and resistance. It received its title of Royal County in 1958 due to its long-established links with the monarchy, and is home to Windsor Castle and Ascot racecourse.

Once known for its agricultural importance the area is now linked with the computer industry, earning the county its name as England's 'Silicon Valley'.
