About Greenford

Greenford is a large suburb in the London Borough of Ealing in West London and was historically associated as an ancient parish in the former county of Middlesex.

A few of the most prominent landmarks in the suburb are the A40 (a major dual-carriageway), Horsenden Hill 85 metres (279 ft) above sea level, the small Parish Church of Holy Cross (14th century) and Betham House built by Edward Betham (circa 1780).

Greenford post town covers a very large area, the name being first recorded in 848 as Grenan forda and formed from the Old English words 'grēne' and 'ford' which defined means’ place at the green ford'. Interestingly Greenford was once known as Great Greenford to distinguish it from Little Greenford which is now known as Perivale to which the affixes 'Magma' and 'Muche' have also been used to denote their differences.
