Watford

Town in England » Hertfordshire

Watford has come along way from its agricultural market town origins. Since the opening of the railway in 1837, linking London to the industrial centre of Birmingham, it has endured a dramatic expansion of people, businesses and subsequent roads, housing and schools.

The early attraction to the green fields and wooded countryside, away from industrial London, has been replaced by the attraction to its large shopping centre, The Harlequin. Watford also boasts a superb sports arena at Vicarage Road, which has hosted Premiership football action and is home to Watford Football Club.

Watford has a young, well-documented history and is also a colourful, diverse town. Use this page to discover more about the town, from current community news to local history and attractions.
