The Thoroton Society of Nottinghamshire
The Thoroton Society is Nottinghamshire's principal historical and archaeological society. It was founded in 1897 and named after Dr Robert Thoroton who, in 1677, published the first history of the county. The society aims to promote and foster study of the history, archaeology and antiquities of Nottinghamshire for the benefit of the local community.
