About Little Saxham

Little Saxham is a small village with some 75 inhabitants, situated three miles west of Bury St Edmunds. It is part of the parish of 'The Saxhams', which includes neighbouring Great Saxham. There are no shops or pub, only a fine church, whose round tower dates back to Saxon times.

Little Saxham Hall, built between 1505 and 1514 and demolished in 1773, was the home of Baron William Crofts during the 1660s. He entertained Charles II at the Hall on a number of occasions, having acted as guardian during the Civil War to Charles' first offspring, later to become the Duke of Monmouth. Charles would came to Little Saxham for hunting and masquerades, following a day at the Newmarket races.
