Crisp, fresh linen on comfortable beds, TV, Tea and coffee making facilities, Full English or continental breakfast included. The George and Dragon Inn is our historic Suffolk coaching inn with its inherent character and traditional charm. Bull Hotel, Long Melford SUDBURY
Long Melford was a busy village in Tudor times, and still is, attracting visitors and holiday makers from all over the UK. But The Bull predates even the Tudor monarchs - by some 35 years, having been built in 1450. The Bull is prominently situated in the centre of Long Melford, which has the longest high street in East Anglia. Its original timber work, both outside and inside is unusually well preserved. That of the exterior was discovered in 1935 when a hundred year old brick front was removed. On a beam in the lounge is carved a 'Wildman' or 'Woodwose', a mysterious being frequently depicted in the decoration of the middle ages, reputedly to ward off evil spirits. You are aware of the Bull's ancient history as soon as you walk into the entrance hall. Its massive moulded oak beams dominate the reception area and the original part of the building. During the coaching era the Bull was the principal Posting House of the town and a stopping place of the London , Bury St Edmunds , and Norwich coaches. Today we still sit back and enjoy the beautiful Elizabethan fireplace in the lounge, and antique carvings in the Cordell Restaurant. The Bull Hotel has been tastefully refurbished in 2003 and is renowned for its excellent cuisine and chef's specialties. The Cordell and Kentwell restaurants serve many delicious dishes, complimented by an excellent selection of fine wines. Lunchtime snacks are available in the Bar and during the afternoon, Cream teas can be served in the courtyard. For relaxation you can sit in one of the comfortable furnished lounges beside one of the hotel's huge Elizabethan fireplaces. Visitors from all over the world stay at the Bull Hotel and enjoy its friendly hospitality. The hotel now offers free Wi Fi.
